Elon Musk and his SpaceX team have successfully launched a Falcon 9 rocket and successfully re-landed it – in what is being called SpaceX’s comeback. Their previous attempt resulted in an explosion which destroyed a rocket delivering supplies to the International Space Station.
The rocket was launched from Cape Canaveral at 8:33 pm EST. Following the launch, the rocket successfully delivered its payload of 11 Orbcomm satellites to their nominal orbits.
The main booster of the rocket designed to be potentially reusable has gently touched down at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, making this a huge milestone for SpaceX. You can see below, Elon Musk’s excitement via Twitter.
